Yaaay! Thank God it is another Friday, the week has been great. Monday started quietly, Tuesday had me thinking about books as we celebrated International Book Day.
I was on track to discuss “Reading Culture in Nigeria”. When my guest, Mofoluwaso Adeleye Ilevbare, who I invited at very short notice declined because the city was going to be on a lock-down in readiness for the President’s visit to Lagos. Tosin Ajayi came to the rescue and we dissected the benefits of reading. Interestingly, the survey we carried out revealed that time spent reading is on the increase. We discovered however, that people would prefer to read leisure books than professional or academic books.
The city of Ibadan welcomed the lovers of the Polo game as the Ibadan Polo Tournament 2019 took off.
My fashion designer friend, Ayotunde Okubanjo of YRC, who designed the ushers’ costume, had also invited me to be part of the experience of showcasing her 2019 collections. This time, I didn’t get to enjoy my amala and gbegiri as usual because it was a barbecue affair all the way. The freshness and distinctive taste of barbecue followed with wine and the beautiful collections was worth the journey from Lagos.
When I asked her what inspired the collection, she was quick to say it was the Mercedes Benz G-Class, which according to her represents an elegant and exquisite woman who is confident in every sphere of her world. I headed back to Lagos as soon as the fashion exhibition was over and couldn’t wait to get into the tournament itself.
Victoria Okoro, of Floral Crown Women’s Network; I practically stood her up as I didn’t see her until two hours later. We were to discuss the platform she created for women to come together and network. Talk of women coming together to help each and you would have nailed it, I was jealous when I saw the passion with which she spoke about her forthcoming event and I thought women and children are a lucky bunch.
