Seun Kuti Set to Release Highly Anticipated Album ‘Heavier Yet’

22 Oct 2024

Afrobeat maestro Seun Kuti, the son of the legendary Fela Kuti, is gearing up to unveil his latest album, Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head).

This project, arriving six years after his Grammy-nominated Black Times, marks a significant evolution in Kuti’s journey as both an artist and an activist. Produced by music legend Lenny Kravitz alongside Fela Kuti’s longtime engineer, Sodi Marciszewer, the album delivers a bold fusion of Afrobeat’s rich legacy and forward-thinking sounds, pushing the genre into exciting new territory.

Comprised of six electrifying tracks, Heavier Yet delves into profound themes of resistance, resilience, and revolution. The song “T.O.P.” critiques society’s fixation on wealth and status, encouraging a return to empathy and a deeper connection with nature, while “Love and Revolution” reflects Kuti’s devotion to his wife, exploring love’s potential to spark transformative change.

In reflecting on the creative process, Seun Kuti extends heartfelt thanks to Lenny Kravitz, celebrating their collaboration as a powerful testament to brotherhood and mutual respect. He also praises the invaluable contributions of Craig Ross and Sodi, describing the studio experience as deeply enriching.

In addition to Kuti’s solo work, the album features two standout collaborations: “Dey” with reggae sensation Damian Marley and “Emi Aluta” featuring the brilliant Sampa the Great. Both tracks further amplify the album’s message of social empowerment and revolution.

Set to drop on all major streaming platforms, Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head) promises not only to entertain but also to inspire a renewed spirit of activism and liberation.
