Secy at 45… One Saturday many angles

6 May 2022

Hi Folks,

Weeks have passed since I got the invite to attend Secy’s birthday. When I got the invite, many things that destiny had fixed… odds at best despite the goodies within.

April 23 came, Ramadan was on day 21; I woke to the news of the transition of Aláàfin Ikú bàbà yeye, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; the 42nd Aláàfin of Oyo Kingdom.

He was 83, having sat on that throne for 52 years.

While the Ọ̀yọ́ mesis mourn, others on the other side of South Western Nigeria, in the beautiful city of Lagos to be precise… I was balling with a bunch of happy fellas in honor of Secy.

Here I am, observing the Ramadan, showing my friend, Secy Abimbola Abuede, some love on her birthday and still thinking about the passing of one of the foremost traditional rulers in Nigeria. Pure case of different folks… right?

Secy is one person who turns up all the time for people and not turning up for her would have been a sacrilege.

So off I went, Femi Odukoya in company; Bidemi Ajala to catch and Sola Oyefule, Mr. & Mrs. Aikhoje were already at the venue waiting for us to make two tables.

The hall was filled with happy people, a naughty MC, wild DJ and the fun was unlimited.

The idea of people wining and dining on my table was tempting enough but it is what it is. I managed and survived the temptation.

Multi-talented performing rapper and baker, Cake Priest, brother to the birthday girl treated us to some nice joints from his album.

We are done partying and back to life as usual.

Meanwhile, it is presidential ticket and declaration galore in Nigeria. Every political ward leader has picked up the ticket to contest as Nigeria’s president.

What are you waiting for? You are qualified too, or…?

Whatever you do today, be sure to make somebody smile through your acts of kindness.

Yours,

Ilupeju B
