Former Head of Grammy Global Music, Marlon Fuentes has described Grammy winner Burna Boy as an ice breaker for winning big at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
In a recent interview with Pulse Nigeria, Fuentes explained why it’s difficult for many African artistes to win the award before now.
“In previous years, a Burna Boy win would have been unlikely, even though his music had the widest consumption in that category. And this would have been due to its pop state,” Fuentes said.
“But it was nice to see him win that category and it was deserved. The category needed an ice breaker, and it was nice to see that others saw the need well,” he said.
On his impact as a lover of Afrobeat, he narrated how he battled with the Awards organiser which led to Burna Boy’s win.
