Let’s go a fishing; J.A Faleke to the Rescue

10 Jan 2025

Hi Folks,

The New Year kicked off on a high note for me and many other constituents of Ikeja Local Government, as Hon. J.A. Faleke once again demonstrated his commitment to community empowerment. From January 7th to 12th, 2025, he organized a comprehensive training program on fish farming, vegetable production, and related fields.

This cohort saw 500 constituents benefit directly from the initiative, receiving certificates and start-up grants of ₦125,000 each—sufficient to establish a mini fish farm with approximately 200 fish. One remarkable highlight was the program’s focus on inclusivity, ensuring the empowerment opportunities reached a broad spectrum of constituents, rather than recycling benefits within closed circles at the ward level.

At the program’s launch, Barr. Ajala, representing Hon. Faleke, urged beneficiaries to use the grant for its intended purpose. He shared real-life examples of those who wasted such opportunities versus those who thrived, encouraging participants to make the most of this chance.

Personally, I’m thrilled to be setting up my mini fish farm and already envision scaling up after my first harvest. The possibilities are exciting!

Did you know you could earn a degree in Fishing Technology and other practical courses for as little as ₦60,000 per year? The Federal College of Freshwater Fisheries Technology offers such opportunities—check them out at www.fcfft-newbussa.edu.ng. Spread the word!

My week also included an appearance on MiTV to discuss trending news and a productive visit to Leadway Assurance to explore their Life Investment Plan.

As I reflect on these experiences, I’m reminded of the timeless wisdom: “Teach someone to fish, and you feed them for a lifetime.” Let’s prioritize sustainable empowerment over temporary fixes.

Finally, remember to make someone smile today with a simple act of kindness.

Yours,
Ilupeju B
