Lagos and the arrest of peaceful protesters

13 Feb 2021

Hi Folks,

Just when you think it is over, another issue rears it’s ugly head in our dear country Nigeria.

The Lekki toll gate is at it again as protesters have converged to demand justice for the victims of the 20/10/20 killings.

The protests erupted when it was reported the Lekki toll gate will be reopened for commercial activities.

The decision may be right in the real sense of it but often times, the government fail to address situations appropriately.

Or should I say the people fail to understand the government?

That is a question for another day.

While peaceful protesters are being arrested in Lagos, violence is happening simultaneously at different locations across the country.

Ibadan has had different shades of violence in the last 72 hours, Ogbomoso, Ekiti, Ondo and the South-East are experiencing the same.

The current state of chaos in our country calls for serious attention, armed bandits, kidnappers and Boko Haram are still having a field day.

Ordinarily, I would most likely be out and about having a great time; save for Covid-19 but the insecurity has gotten to that point where one has to be extremely careful.

We are now at the point where we have to confront these issues head-on.

What would you suggest to the government as a way out of this quagmire?

Remember to make someone smile today through your acts of kindness.

Have a great weekend.

Yours,

Ilupeju B
