Jobbers and talkers: Nigeria’s social media political analysts

15 Feb 2022

Hi Folks,

I trust you are keeping safe and surely had a great valentine’s day experience. Well, it was rather quiet at my end as I busied myself with events around Nigeria’s political space.

Aba Kyari’s (super cop) arrest for complicity in a drug trafficking cartel is the latest pointer to how rotten the system has become in the country.

I know you are thinking what has that got to do with politics, right?

It has got a lot to do, the super cop was supposed to be in suspension since July or August 2021; in which case he was to remain away from his work environment. He was reported to have been operating like he is full officer.

The gist of Bọlá Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to the Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona and the purported wet patch behind his agbada. Jobbers say he peed himself. His media team haven’t given any credible response to the claims.

Vice President Yemi Osibajo has not had a day free of media dragging, with jabs coming both positively and otherwise. Buhari wouldn’t support a Tinubu presidency, Osibajo has refused to declare.

In the words of Joseph Edgar, loads of kindergarten contenders are rearing their heads.

These kindergarten contenders have had it good from jobbers and analysts as the questions of what their real intents are remain in doubt.

Some opine that the new comers are in to boost their network and popularity and will go home richer losers, thanks to global fund raising from friends and family donations.

What the analysts have failed to point out in clear terms, is who their ideal candidate should be?

So I ask you, is it compulsory to have served at a lower elective office before vying for the president’s seat?

It is Random Acts of Kindness week, please make it count.

Yours,

Ilupeju B
