Buhari Picks Former UN Under-Secretary as Chief of Staff

13 May 2020

Hi Folks,

Trust you are keeping safe like I am here, ermmm… may be not exactly; I still go out in the line of duty.

Anyways, the Covid-19 tension is still there but feels somewhat relaxed; like the world has gotten somewhat used to it. Truth is, Covid-19 is still there; no cure has been found and the entire world is still on the race to find one.

Meanwhile in Nigeria, the gist on the side has been about the replacement for the former Chief of Staff, the late Mallam Abba Kyari. Kyari died from the Corona Virus disease complications.

Many speculators came up with these names; Babagana Kingibe, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs, Hammed Alli; and education minister, Adamu Adamu.

The wait is finally over, the speculations have been rested and the president has surprised the speculators according to presidential sources, tipping former United Nations Under-Secretary, Ibrahim Gambari as the new Chief of Staff.

Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, a professor of Political Science and Nigeria’s former permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), will be announced as the new chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.

He will be presented during the virtual meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Gambari has served Nigeria and the world in many capacities, as Ambassador, UN Representative, Minister, Chairperson of the African Union Commission as Joint African Union-United Nations Special Representative for Darfur among others.

As usual, opinions have started pouring in on whether professor of Political Science was a good choice or not. An article published by former presidential aspirant Omoyele Sowore in 2005, has been circulating since the news broke.

There are jubilation in some quarters, especially at the Ilorin emirates, where Gambari hails from.

Trust me to keep you updated if there are new developments. Keep staying safe and endeavor to make somebody smile today through your acts of kindness.

Yours,

Ilupeju B
