YANGA! LAUNCHES ON FREESAT CHANNEL 171.

Dynamic, irreverent and effervescent – welcome
to YANGA!, the new general entertainment channel for the UK’s African diaspora, now available on Freesat channel 171.

From beats to humour, from lifestyle to kids programming, YANGA! is the
pulse of the African diaspora, bringing the continent’s colour and vitality
into your living room.

The channel’s broad schedule combines the best entertainment television
produced from across the continent, plus a bold new series of original
programmes produced locally by the diaspora.

Highlights include Turn Up, showcasing the latest agenda-setting Afrobeat music and cultural coverage; Fizzi, for YANGA!’s younger African viewers, specifically designed to delight both parents’ and children’s collective cultural imagination, and Number 6, the
channel’s free-spirited, night-time comedy show.

“YANGA! means self-pride and showing-off in West African pidgin,” says
Lindsey Oliver, Managing Director of YANGA!’s parent company, Africa
MediaWorks. “We want to celebrate the eclectic and inspirational lives and
culture of Africans living in the UK by delivering positive and empowering
stories.

“African cultural influence is so prevalent in
the UK right now and we want to bolster this excitement by shining a light on
its best entertainers, comedians and musicians. We are delighted to announce
our carriage on Freesat as we believe it is a great platform for our audience
due to its excellent value and the variety it offers,” she adds.

Alistair Thom, Managing Director at Freesat, said: “Freesat
is committed to bringing a wealth of content to customers and broadening its
channel offering, and we’re delighted to welcome YANGA! to the platform. The
channel brings a wide range of entertainment and cultural programmes from West
Africa to the UK, all subscription free.”
